Place
your Moon Tycoon CD into your CD-ROM
drive. If your computer is AutoPlay
enabled, the Moon Tycoon Launcher will
automatically appear on the screen:
Select INSTALL from the list to start
the installation process. Follow the
on-screen instructions. After the game
is successfully installed, Moon Tycoon
items will be added to the Programs
Folder in your Start menu, and a Moon
Tycoon icon will be added to your desktop.
If your system is not AutoPlay capable
(or if AutoPlay is disabled), double-click
the "My Computer" icon on
your desktop, then double-click your
CD-ROM drive icon. Select INSTALL from
the list to start the installation process
and follow the directions above.
Alternately, if you are having trouble
getting the Moon Tycoon Launcher to
appear, you may double-click the file
"launcher.exe" on your Moon
Tycoon CD to start the Moon Tycoon Launcher.
|
|
Moon
Tycoon also requires the latest DirectX
drivers to be installed on your system.
At the end of the Moon Tycoon installation,
your DirectX version will be verified.
If there is no DirectX installed on
your system or if you have an older
version, you will be promped for DirectX
installation.
You can also install DirectX through
Moon Tycoon's Autoplay Launcher. Click
the "Install DirectX" button
and then select your Windows version.
If you are unsure which verison of Windows
you have, click the "Autodetect"
button and it will automatically be
detected. Then click on the "Install
DirectX" button to install it.

Drivers
You should first upgrade the latest
drivers to your graphics card. Here
is a list of links to a few of the most
common graphics card manufacturers'
web sites:
Note: In some cases, where a manufacturer
has gone out of business and their corporate
site is shutting down (3dfx), we have
tried to provide the next best source
of info available.
Moon Tycoon requires DirectX 7. If
there are no DirectX 7 compatible drivers
for your graphics card, it is still
possible that Moon Tycoon will run,
although functionality cannot be guaranteed.
Older Graphics
Cards
If you experience color or transparency
problems (like black squares around
some objects) run "Moon Tycoon
Setup" and check "Optimize
Textures." You may also adjust
the same setting from the Options screen
within the game.
Older Secondary
Graphics Cards
If you have an older secondary graphics
card like the Voodoo2 3D accelerator
card, it might not be recognized, so
you must play the game using your primary
graphics card.
|
|
This is a rare cosmetic problem. If
you encounter an exaggerated lens flare
effect in the game, it's due to the
alpha blending settings of your graphics
card. If it bothers you, simply turn
off "Lens flare" in the game
Options screen or from the Moon Tycoon
Setup program.
|
|
Moon Tycoon features a dynamic day
/ night cycle. If it's too dark during
the night cycle, simply set the "Lighting"
option to Low in the game Options until
the sun comes back up. You can also
change this option from the Moon Tycoon
Setup program.

Moon Tycoon requires at least DirectX
7. If there are no DirectX 7 compatible
drivers for your graphics card, it is
still possible that Moon Tycoon will
run, although functionality cannot be

Motherboards
You should check that you
have the latest drivers installed for
your motherboard and especially for
the AGP bus. These drivers make sure
that all communication between the graphics
adapter, CPU and memory are done using
the most efficient way, for example
by enabling full AGP support. If your
system is based on an AMD Processor,
updating the drivers is of utmost importance,
since most Microsoft Windows versions
have limited out-of-the-box support
for motherboard chipsets commonly used
with AMD processors. These are known
as AGP Miniport drivers.
Here's a short list of sites where
you can find suitable drivers for most
common system configurations:

After you Start A New Game you can
play the campaigns by clicking on Campaign
1, Campaign 2 or Campaign 3.
Note: You must complete Campaign 1 before
you will be able to begin Campaign 2.
Likewise, you must complete 2 before
you can start 3.
Each Campaign has 10 Missions. To start
a new Campaign Mission you
must first click on the Mission Name,
then click on OK to start playing. After
you complete Mission 1, Mission 2 will
become available, and so on, until you
complete all of the missions.

When a new structure is built, resources
are redistributed. This can cause a
"Colony
Blackout" when utilities
lose their needed resources. To prevent
this, keep a few basic utilities near
your more advanced utility and personnel
structures, to ensure that they are
always working.
To fix a "Colony
Blackout" that has occurred;
build a few basic utilities and connect
them to your existing utility and personnel
structures.
Press the ROTATE key to change the
alignment of Connection Tubes or to
select a 4-way cross-junction Tube (check
Help / Options).
To adjust how fast the camera moves,
use the CAMERA FASTER / SLOWER Keyboard
Shortcut buttons (check Help / Options).
Be careful when demolishing buildings
or Connection Tubes. You don't want
to cut off the resource flow to large
parts of the colony!
You can customize your visual / audio
settings in the Options Menu so Moon
Tycoon plays the way you want it to.
Use the Help Menu if you don't know
how to build a certain building.
Each Maintenance Center will add extra
years to the Life of buildings. When
buildings have less than 2 years of
Life left, they become red.
Plan ahead and build your colony in
small portions! Otherwise, you may have
many buildings running out of Service
Life at the same time.

Mining and
Factory Production - both
can quickly provide large amounts of
money for the colony, but will greatly
lower Morale and Attraction. Warehouses
are required to store produced goods,
and a Radio Tower is needed to receive
current market prices.
Research
- different buildings will provide Research
Points for the colony. You can distribute
these points towards advancements in
either Electronic or Medical Factory
production, increasing their potential
selling price.
Tourism
- the key to building a successful Tourism
colony is knowing the effect that each
building has on the colony's Attraction
and Tourist count. Some Tourism structures
will also increase colony Morale, which
benefits Space Agency support!
Monthly Expenses
- you can view and adjust the amount
of funds given to colony programs in
the Expenses Menu. Increasing certain
expenses will benefit Research, Morale,
or Attraction.
Morale and
Attraction - the Status Menu
shows the current Morale and Attraction
level, and which buildings are causing
the effects.
Morale is the happiness of your colonists.
The better the Morale, the higher the
Agency Support you will receive. The
positive or negative outcome of Special
Requests is directly affected by colony
Morale.
Attraction shows how desirable your
colony is to visit. The higher the Attraction,
the more money each Tourist will spend
at your colony.

Install
the latest service packs for your operating
system. They are available from Windows Update. In addition, check the Web site of the
manufacturer of your video card, sound
card or motherboard to see if newer
drivers are
available for any of them.
If the game crashes randomly on a Windows
2000 computer that has a motherboard
with a VIA chipset, please install Windows
2000 Service Pack 2 or later (more information).
For best performance on some Windows2000
systems, it may be necessary for you
to install a compatibility update from
Microsoft called "appupd.exe."
If you are having trouble running Moon
Tycoon on your Windows2000 system, you
may need to install the update. This
small 354K update can be downloaded
from Microsoft's website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/tools/appcompat/default.asp
If you cannot find appupd.exe at that
link, please visit http://www.microsoft.com
and type "appupd.exe"
in the site search to locate the file.
After download, run the Compatibility
update and follow the instructions.
After installation, you must change
your Moon Tycoon Win2000 preferences.
With your right mouse button, click
on the Moon Tycoon Windows Start menu
shortcut and change the compatibility
tab.

Check "Run
in compatiblity mode"
and select "Windows
98 Compatibility Layer."
After that you are all set to run Moon
Tycoon!
|
|
Using
Compatibity Mode:
Right-Click on your Moon Tycoon Shortcut,
then select Properties. Click on the
Compatibility tab (see below) and select
"Run this program in compatibility
mode for:" and then pick "Windows
98 / Windows Me" from the drop-down
list. That should do the trick, and
you should be able to play with no problems!
